Questions you might have ...
Our sustainability program has lost focus and needs re-energising. How can So-Eco help?
We can help in a number of different ways. Here are just a few examples of how:
We're a small school with limited resources and parent support. Does this matter?
No, whatever your size of school we can help. Our programs help to organise better resource management and energise the parent community, so that schools can harness community support however large or small.
Our school is not a ResourceSmart School - can So-Eco for Schools help us?
Yes! So-Eco for Schools' unique flexibility allows us to work with schools that are either signed up or following a different path. Either way, we can provide expertise and guidance to help your school implement systems and initiatives and we work successfully with principals, teachers, parents and students.
Is there funding available for the So-Eco for Schools Program?
So-Eco for Schools suggests a number of funding options for schools who want to become more sustainable. These may include grant opportunities to help fund specific projects or sponsorship opportunities for the So-Eco for Schools program. Contact us to talk through these options or learn more at Funding.
What is Sustainability Victoria's ResourceSmart Schools
ResourceSmart Schools is an award-winning Victorian Government program that assists schools to embed sustainability in everything they do, encourages real-life sustainability learning and helps schools save money.” Schools take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and are awarded 'Stars' for completing modules in Core, Waste, Energy, Biodiversity and Water. The pinnacle is becoming a 5Star certified school! So-Eco for Schools has over 10 years of experience with the ResourceSmart framework and can guide your school through each stage of certification.
How long does it take to get a ResourceSmart Schools "Star"?
That depends on your school's resource availability. Some schools may have a dedicated sustainability teacher who runs the program, others are more parent driven. Either way, achieving 'Star' certification involves a whole school approach and can take as little as one year or less to achieve the first 'Star'. With focus, commitment and momentum, schools can achieve 5 Stars within three to four years. See the So-Eco 5Star Snapshot for a brief overview of the process.
